THE STORIES

So what is romantic ecopunk fantasy, anyway?

The descriptor came about after aggravating hours trying to narrow down the variety of themes and elements I write about. It’s difficult to narrow down literal millions of words into a single coherent idea.

(Imposter syndrome is also a big barrier in “claiming” a word; are my books smart enough to be really called ‘ecopunk’?)

But here’s the deal. My stories are typically set in fantastical worlds, involve complex characters dealing with a host of issues (personal and otherwise), and usually star a romance or two. Environmentalism is deeply important to me, and threads of it show up in most of my stories, even if it’s not as smart as other folks out there. Mental health themes are also big for me, and my characters usually take a philosophical stance about something every once in a while (but not preachy).

All in all, my stories wrap up on a positive note, because there’s enough hardship in the world and I don’t want to add to it. That’s not to say my characters don’t drag themselves through impossible situations in order to get there.

Thus, romantic ecopunk fantasy.
